Mawenzissa tapasimme fysioterapeutti Bonicin, jolla oli huippu ote kuntouttavaan työhön. Vaikka välineitä ei juuri ollut, hän osasi hyödyntää sitäkin vähää. Iloksemme huomasimme, että me kuntoutustyöntekijät taidamme olla samanlaisia jokapuolella maailmaa. Huuli lensi ja nauru raikasi.
Päätimme laajentaa toimintaamme myös Mawenzin sairaalaan ja
aloittaa koulutuksen fysioterapia osastolla. Kiboshon ja Mawenzin sairaalat
tekevät yhteistyötä joten painevaatteita on helppo jakaa sairaaloiden välillä.
On Thursday
we had the opportunity to visit Mawenzi hospital. The reception was yet again
overwhelmingly kind. Mawenzi had the same services than Kibosho although more
spaciously. Thus they could separate burn victims and abdominal diseases from the
other patients. We met a young burn victim and took measurements for the
pressure garments. If the skin is heeled we can begin treatment this week. What
a brave young man!
In Mawenzi
we met Bonic, a physiotherapist, who was the most innovative person ever. With
low to no equipment he could still utilize everything possible. We were happy
to realize that physiotherapists are alike all over the world; we laughed and
joked endlessly.
We decided
to branch out to Mawenzi hospital as well and begin training in their
physiotherapy department. Kibosho and Mawenzi hospitals were already teamed up
so it was easy to share the garments between the two hospitals.
