Joulupukkia odotellessa / Waiting for Santa

Odotimme avustuslähetystä kymmenen päivää! Voitte varmaan kuvitella, kun vihdoin pääsimme lentokentälle ja näimme kontit, olo oli melkoisen onnellinen. Tavaraa oli yhteensä 520 kiloa: pyörätuoleja, kyynärsauvoja ja paljon muita tarpeellisia apuvälineitä. Vielä kerran iso kiitos lahjoittaneille!

Myös Kiboshon sairaalassa oltiin tyytyväisiä, kun tavarat olivat vihdoin saapuneet.

Yleinen riemu johtui siitä, että rahtialueella käytiin jo kerran valtion autolla, rekka perässä ja tultiin kotiin tyhjin käsin. Olettaa voisi, että hitaus johtuisi Afrikasta, mutta näin ei suinkaan ollut. Tavarat olivat jumissa Euroopassa.

We waited for the shipment for ten days! Oh the happiness when we arrived to the airport and actually saw the containers. The shipment was 520 kilos; wheelchairs, crutches and a lot of other aids. A great big thank you to all the donors!

The Kibosho hospital was also very happy to see the aids arrive.

We already went to the cargo area to pick up the goods by a government truck once – with an 8-wheeler in tow – and came back empty handed. One could assume that the tardiness was caused by none other than Africa and their ways but no. The shipment was stuck in Europe.

Ennen tavaroiden lunastusta sairaalan täytyi kirjoittaa verovapautukseen oikeuttava kirje tullia varten. Kirjoittamisessa avusti myös Hanna Metso Tanzania Volunteersilta. Essi ja Matti valvoivat pilkkujen oikeaa käyttöä. 
Before the hospital could reclaim their goods they had to write a letter for the customs to free them of declaring fees. To assist was Hanna Metso (Tanzania Volunteers). Essi and Matti checked that all of the T’s were crossed and I’s dotted.

Aina eivät mene hommat putkeen ja välillä kotimatkat venyvät odottamattomista syistä. Renkaanvaihtoa puuhaavat Tanu ja Essi (jo toista kertaa samana päivänä).

It’s not always a walk in the park and the schedules fail for unexpected reasons. Changing the tires are Tanu and Essi – for the second time in one day.
