Ylilääkäri ei ollut koskaan nähnyt kääntölautaa eikä liukulautaa. Esittelimme purkamisen lomassa kuinka niitä käytetään ja mihin tarkoitukseen. Nämä tuotteet taisivat lähteä heti käyttöön, sillä tähän asti potilaat on nostettu ahtaissa huoneissa kuuden ihmisen voimin patjoineen päivineen.
Kiboshon fysioterapeutti Flaviana koulutettiin painevaatteen mittaamiseen ja pukemiseen ja pääperiaatteisiin. Koulutus jatkuu ensi viikolla. Olemme kääntäneet ohjeet sekä englanniksi että swahiliksi (no okei, swahiliksi ei itse tehty, meillä oli apua...). Jokainen vaate on mitattu ja niiden väliin on laitettu mitallinen kuva.
Tosiaan, toimintamme laajeni myös Mawenzin sairaalaan, koska huomasimme, että tarvetta on. Osa lahjoitusapuvälineistä ja painetekstiileistä lahjoitettiin sinne. Koulutamme Mawenzin fysioterapeutit ensi viikolla niin ikään. Nyt kouluttaminen tuntuu helpommalta, kun on ohjeet molemmilla kielillä - ei tule lost in translation -tilanteita.
Kävi ilmi, että Kiboshon sairaala hallinnoi tietyllä tasolla 13:ta alueella sijaitsevaa muuta sairaalaa ja terveyskeskusta. Päätimme Dr. Materun kanssa, että jätämme kaikki isommat apuvälineet heille varastoon jolloin he voivat tarpeen vaatiessa jakaa niitä eteenpäin. Näin kaikki tavarat saadaan tarvitseville tehokkaasti käyttöön, ettei mikään apuväline jää käyttämättä eikä sitä myytäisi eteenpäin. Sovimme myös, että yksityishenkilöille apuvälineitä lainatessa, tehdään asianomaisen kanssa apuvälineestä vuokrasopimus ja siitä maksetaan pantti. Näin varmistetaan apuvälineen päätyminen takaisin sairaalaan. Painevaatteet jaamme puoliksi Kiboshon ja Mawenzin fysioterapian osastojen kesken. Jatkossa Lymed-tuotteet tullaan jakamaan sairaaloiden kesken ja tarpeen vaatiessa he voivat vaihdella tuotteita keskenään.
We unloaded
the 520 kilos on Monday. Everyone, including doctors, was there to lend a hand.
In the meantime we girls might have frightened the local men: we were climbing
crates, lifting wheelchairs and assembling anything. The boys of LYMED came in
to help a bit later. They tuned the wheelchairs for top speed! Teija, our
managing director, hoisted aids to the warehouse. We probably caused a culture
shock or two since the women don’t tend to do these sorts of jobs in this end
of the world.
The senior
physician had never seen a back board or a sliding board. While unloading we
demonstrated how to use them and why. These aids went straight to use since so
far the patients have been lifted in crowded rooms, needing six people and
their mattress.
Flaviana,
the physiotherapist of Kibosho hospital was trained to measure and dress
pressure garments. The training will continue next week. We have translated the
instructions to English an Swahili (well, to be fair we did not do that
ourselves, we had help..). Each garment was measured and a picture with the
measures put between them.
Indeed, our
project wondered over to Mawenzi hospital after we noticed their dire need.
Some of the aids and textiles were donated over there. We will start training
with the physiotherapists there next week. Now the training seems a bit easier
with the Swahili instructions – we are not lost in translation.
We found
out that the Kibosho hospital governs thirteen other hospitals and health care
facilities in the same area. We decided, along with Dr.Materu, that we will
leave the biggest aids with them so they can distribute them forward. This way
all of the aids will be efficiently used and not sold. We agreed that when
loaning the aids to a private person a contract and a pawn will be set up. All
this to ensure that the aid will find its way back to the hospital. The
pressure garments were shared between the physiotherapy wards of Kibosho and
Mawenzi. In the future all of the LYMED products will be shared between them
and they can swap products if needed.
